HOW TO CLEAN CUTLERY WITH COLORED RESIN HANDLES

Cutlery with methacrylate or plastic handles (like your colored or pearly collections) requires specific care to prevent the handle from dulling or cracking over time. Here are the basic steps to clean them properly and keep them shiny: 1. Dishwasher safe (with caution) Although many modern cutlery items are dishwasher safe, excessive heat is the number one enemy of methacrylate. Temperature: Use low-temperature wash cycles (max 50°C – 55°C). Positioning: Place the cutlery in the basket with the handles facing up. This prevents water from pooling in the joint between the steel and the handle, preventing seepage. Detergents: Avoid overly harsh or lemon-based detergents, which can corrode the methacrylate’s glossy finish. 2. Hand Wash (Recommended Method) To preserve the shine for a long time, hand washing is ideal: Use warm water and a gentle neutral soap. Use only the soft part of the sponge. Abrasive sponges will irreparably scratch the methacrylate, removing the typical mother-of-pearl shine. Do not leave them to soak for hours: prolonged humidity can weaken the bond between the parts. 3. Immediate Drying This is the secret to avoiding limescale stains and streaks: Dry the cutlery immediately after washing with a microfiber cloth or a soft cotton dishcloth. Do not let them air dry in the dishwasher while still damp, as the hot steam can damage the handle resins. 4. What to Absolutely Avoid: Solvents: Never use alcohol, acetone, or bleach on plastic or methacrylate handles; they will cause immediate cracking (craquelé). Direct Steam: If you use steam cleaners in the kitchen, keep the cutlery away from the direct jet.
